Choosing a new mattress is quite a difficult process. Not just the mattress’s materials, the brands you have to consider, there is also a problem of which size of mattress that can give you the pleasurable sleep you deserve.

Considering professionals’ advice, your mattress’s length should be at least 15cm longer than your body. About the width, you should choose a mattress that when lying with the other one, both of you can still lay comfortably with your hands under your head, and you two’s elbows don’t touch each other.

Check out some tips for choosing the right size:

King size (1m8x2m)

The King size gives a roomy experience for couples or a couple with their baby. This size is suitable for active sleepers, you can move freely in your sleep without worrying you might disturb your sleep-mate.

With this size of mattress, you should measure and arrange everything in your bedroom beforehand. Your bedroom should be from around 3mx4m and above so you can still have your furniture and walking space in the room.

The perfect ratio of your bedroom and mattress is around 2:1. So you can have enough space to decorate and also help your room to be able to “breathe”, providing you with a night of good night sleep.

Queen size (1m6x2m)

Queen is a suitable choice of size for couples who like to cuddle. With the width of 1m60, there is plenty of room for 2 people with 80cm for each. Comparing the average shoulder width of an adult at 35-45cm, both you and your bed-mate would have enough space to lay comfortably but not too far away from each other.

This size is also not too big for someone who loves to sleep alone. Not just that, it is also easy to fit in most bedrooms. With this size, your bedroom should be at least 2m60x3m to have the mattress with some basic furniture.

Full size (1m40x2m)

This is the perfect size for those who love to sleep alone with a bit of space to move around. If you want to have 2 people on this size, each would only have around 70cm of width on the mattress, whilst the average shoulder size is around 35cm-45cm. Hence, 2 person on this mattress size would very likely to cause discomfort, even get your sleep disturbed in the middle of the night from unwilling contacts during sleep.

The Full size has 1m40 in width and 2m in length. Hence, your bedroom should have the dimensions at least around 2m40x3m so you can arrange the room easily. You should have the accessible walking space around 1m or above around your mattress.

With a small bedroom, you can easily decorate the room with some few details. A super comfy mattress, with light colour bedding, some small paintings and a stylized night lamp.

Single size (1m20x2m)

The Single size (1m20 in width) would be the best choice to sleep alone. Having a mattress this size, your bedroom should be around 2m20x3m. With a  lamp, a convenient working desk and chair set, and enough space for you to do anything.

This size is also a great fit for children, especially from 2 to 12 years old. Mattresses can usually last for 10 years before it starting to become uncomfortable or even dangerous for your health. Along with the average growth of children, they tend to grow taller, around 6cm each year from 3 years old until pre-puberty. Hence, after around 10 years, the mattress you bought for your baby child would be old enough to need a replacement and your child has been growing up, enough to need a bigger mattress.

Finally, consider all your needs and what you like. Base on these recommendations, with whatever the elements that you like for your bedroom, just create the perfect bedroom that can give you a good night sleep every night. Refer to the comparison between types of mattress to help you choose the right mattress.
